  17. An' [Bb] went to Detroit workin' on a 'sembly line
  18. The C] first year they had me puttin' wheels on cadil- [F] lacs
  19. Every day I'd watch them beauties roll by
  20. And [Bb] sometimes I'd hang my head and cry
  21. 'Cause I [C] always wanted me one that was long and [F] black.

  23. One day I devised myself a plan
  24. That should be the envy of most any man
  25. I'd sneak it out of there in a lunchbox in my hand
  26. Now gettin' caught meant gettin' fired
  27. But I figured I'd have it all by the time I retired
  28. I'd have me a car worth at least a hundred grand.

  38. So the very next day when I punched in
  39. With my big lunchbox and with help from my friends
  40. I left that day with a lunch box full of gears
  41. Now I never considered myself a thief
  42. But GM wouldn't miss just one little piece
  43. Especially if I strung it out over several years.

  45. The first day I got me a fuel pump
  46. And the next day I got me an engine and a trunk
  47. Then I got me a transmission and all of the chrome
  48. The little things I could get in my big lunchbox
  49. Like nuts, an' bolts, and all four shocks
  50. But the big stuff we snuck out in my buddy's mobile home.

  52. Now up to now my plan went allright
  53. 'Til we tried to put it all together one night
  54. And that's when we noticed that something was definitely wrong.
  55. The transmission was a '53
  56. And the motor turned out to be a '73
  57. And when we tried to put in the bolts all the holes were gone.

  59. So we drilled it out so that it would fit
  60. And with a little bit of help with an A-daptor kit
  61. We had that engine runnin' just like a song
  62. Now the headlight' was another sight
  63. We had two on the left and one on the right
  64. But when we pulled out the switch all three of 'em come on.

  66. The back end looked kinda funny too
  67. But we put it together and when we got thru
  68. Well, that's when we noticed that we only had one tail-fin
  69. About that time my wife walked out
  70. And I could see in her eyes that she had her doubts
  71. But she opened the door and said "Honey, take me for a spin."

  73. So we drove up town just to get the tags
  74. And I headed her right on down main drag
  75. I could hear ever'body laughin' for blocks around
  76. But up there at the court house they didn't laugh
  77. 'Cause to type it up it took the whole staff
  78. And when they got through the title weighed sixty pounds.
